Today marked the beginning of a new season of club water polo with three matches from the French Championship. Right from the start, a significant surprise unfolded – a surprise that caught the French federation and the clubs off-guard, clearly unprepared for the championship to commence this early!
Namely, on the official pages of the French federation, one can only find the schedule of the championship matches. Any additional information regarding this year’s rosters, players, results, or statistics is non-existent. The situation with the clubs isn’t any better. Out of the six clubs participating in today’s matches, three of them are still utilizing rosters from the 22/23 season, two clubs possess no information whatsoever about their players, while one club has only 8 (and a half) players…
Let’s be clear, the situation in the vast majority of other federations and clubs isn’t much better either. However, many of them are more than willing to provide advice on how to promote this sport and emphasize that this is precisely what we lack.
