There was no womenβs league action this weekend in Hungary, but there were some incredibly entertaining two-legged ties in the Quarter Finals of the BENU Hungarian Cup.Β
Eger, UVSE, Ferencvaros, and III Keruleti TVE have all progressed to the semi-finals. The draw for the next round takes place on Monday.Β
The biggest story of the weekend is that Keruleti will be in the final four of the Hungarian Cup after winning the tie with a single second to play. Overturning a two-goal deficit from the first game against BVSC (7-5), it was Gerda Brezovszki who netted the all-important goal with 0:01 left on the clock. Brezovszki was crucial to the result, netting six times in the game.
Elsewhere, the biggest contest on paper was between Ferencvaros and Dunaujvaros, and while the second leg was well-poised after an 8-8 tie in Dunaujvaros, Fradi dominated Ujvaros at Nipleget, 13-7.Β DFVEβs former player, Greta Gurisatti, haunted her old team with four goals for her new employers.Β
UVSE eventually had an easy victory in their games with Szentes (10-5 & 17-9), although the team from Csongrad County arguably could have punished UVSE a lot more than they did in the first fixture at Alfred Hajos.Β Kamilla Farago bagged seven goals in total in the two games. Kata Hajdu, who last week made her senior team debut at the World League, continues to impress, scoring six goals over both legs.Β
The reigning Hungarian Cup champions twice put 20+ goals past Szeged in their quarter-final matches (21-9 & 23-4).Β The games were a shooting spree for some of Egerβs sharp-shooter; Dorottya Szilagyi netted seven in the first game at the Tiszavirag Swimming Pool; Szilagyi, alongside Ilona Borsi and Dora Czigany, netted five in the return game at Bitskey Aladar.
