The summer vacation for the best Hungarian clubs is over. The national championship has started.
Most of the favourites easily recorded away victories on Day 1 of the Hungarian League. Only one match ended in a draw. Szentes and Eger shared the points after a hard-fought battle.

Titleholder Ferencvaros convincingly defeated Szeged 20:11. Almost half of the goals for Ferencvaros were scored by newcomers, as Gergo Zalnaki netted 4, Ioannis Fountoulis 3 and Nicolas Constantin-Bicari 2 goals.
Szolnok travelled to Pecs to play against PVSK. The home team did a fine job for a quarter and a half and trailed only 4:5 in the middle of the second period. Szolnok then produced a 4:0 rush, went 9:5 up and secured a win (12:9).
Miskolc demolished Tatabanya 17:4. Viktor Vadovics and Italian Edoardo Manzi, who came from Posilllipo this summer, were the best scorer. Each of them found the net 4 times.
UVSE defeated Debrecen. By the middle of the third quarter, UVSE built a 10:3 lead. Debrecen started climbing back after that, but it was too late. UVSE collected points with a 12:7 win.

An encounter between Szentes and Eger had a lot of twist and turns. The lead was constantly changing, but the difference between the sides was never bigger than a goal. The sides entered tied the last period (10:10). Eger’s Murisic converted a man-up for 11:10 in the 4th minute of the 4th period. Matyok netted an equaliser for the final score 11:11 two minutes from the end.
Vasas and OSC, the clubs which were clinching the Champions Cup in the ‘70s and the ‘80s, faced off in the Budapest derby in the Bela Komjadi Pool. Vasas, the home team, took an opening 2:0 lead. During the second quarter, OSC went in front. At halftime, the visitors were 6:4 up.
Early in the third period, Vasas scored its 5th goal for 5:6. But that was hosts’ last goal in the match. OSC, the runner-up in the 2018/19 national championship, tightened its defence and nailed 6 unanswered goals for a 12:5 victory. The top scorer was a Serb Nemanja Ubovic with 4 goals. Andrija Prlainovic, Ubovic’s fellow countryman, scored two goals in his debut for OSC.
Kaposvar opened the match against Honved, with a 2:0 lead. However, Honved took control soon and, led by its legend Marton Szivos (5 goals), recorded a 6-goal win (12:6).
BVSC defeated AVUS in the match played in Szhombathely thanks to a great comeback in the last minutes of the game. AVUS, the home team, had a nice 12:10 advantage five minutes before the end. BVSC scored four unanswered goals in the remaining time for a 14:12 win.
