But, Sabac responded in the same manner, with three goals in a row, and turned around a 2-goal deficit to a 6:5 lead (28th minute). Still, Tourcoing managed to win a point. After a draw against Sabac, Tourcoing had a great chance to take a ticket for the second phase with a win over UZSC. Still, the Dutch earned three points and made a big step towards the next round of the LEN Euro Cup.
UZSC had a 4:3 lead at halftime, but Tourcoing took control after the middle break, and went in front two times (5:4, 6:5) . But, new turns were yet to come. UZSC entered the final period leading 7:6 as Wijnhoven converted a man up for 7:6 just 18 seconds before the end of the 3rd quarter. Tourcoing opened the fourth quarter with two goals and regained a lead (8:7). Still, the finish belonged to the hosts. They scored two goals in 41 seconds and went ahead – 9:8 with 01:19 left on the clock. They kept the minimal advantage and an important win in the remaining time.
UZSC will play against winless ASC Duisburg in the last round. If the hosts record a win in that match, they will jump to 2nd place and qualify for the next round, regardless of the result of the encounter between Vasas and Tourcoing.
Vasas cemented 1st place in the group with a win over Sabac. The Hungarians scored the only goal in the first quarter, but Sabac opened the second quarter with two quick goals for 2:1. Still, Vasas answered with a 4:0 series. The Hungarian team earned a 5:2 lead early in the third quarter and that was vital for the Hungarians’ win. Sabac, which played with only 11 players in Utrecht, didn’t surrender, but it couldn’t catch up with Vasas and recover from a 0:4 series.
Sabac is currently in 2nd place, and it is still in the race for the 2nd round. But the Serbs finished the tournament. They played all four games. Nothing depends on them. The Serbian club will survive in Europe if Tourcoing doesn’t defeat Vasas and ASC Duisburg takes at least a point against UZSC.
