Another transfer to Pro Recco marks the season, but this time it’s intercontinental. Joseph Kayes, an Australian center forward player, signed a contract with Italian champions. With this decision, Joseph became the first Australian player to sign for Pro Recco.
Below we bring you a short interview Delfina Sport had with Joseph Kayes.
Congratulations Joe on this great achievement. How are you feeling about moving to one of the biggest, if not the biggest water polo club in the world?
Thanks. Feeling stoked and proud but also well aware of the workload and expectations ahead of me.
What are your goals both individually and team-based heading over there?
I can only have one goal with a team like that and that’s win everything. Individually also improve on various aspects and grow some great relationships in the pool.
What are you expecting the training/experience to be like considering you have already played professionally in Hungary before?
I expect it’ll be far above what Hungary was like. I’m expecting an amazing professional group and I’m really looking forward to working with some of the best players and coaches in the world.
You have been playing with the Cronulla Sharks Water Polo Club in the AWL for the past couple of seasons, was it tough to say goodbye to this team? How did they respond to this news considering you play such a big role on the team both in and out of the water?
I’ve had nothing but support from them and Pedja and Vecki. I know it’ll be a big blow to the team but a good challenge for others to step up.
On behalf of Delfina Sport, we wish you all the best.
