Italy has become the first finalist of the 2026 Trebinje Cup. Following this morning’s victory over Spain, the “Settebello” triumphed over Serbia in the second round 13:11, securing first place in Group A. Hungary defeated Greece 12:9 in this evening’s match in Group B.
Italy needed less than three minutes to establish a 3:0 lead against Serbia, setting the tone for the second match in Group A. Despite having strong support from the stands, the Serbs couldn’t recover from their poor start. Midway through the second quarter, Italy established a 4-goal lead for the first time after Edoardo Di Somma made it 7:3 from a counterattack. Late in the first half, the “Settebello” had a chance to widen the gap to five goals from a penalty shot. However, Serbia’s goalkeeper Milan Glusac saved a shot from Dolce. Dusan Mandic closed the first half with an action goal (4:7). Italy dominated in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals and jumping to an 11:4 lead. Serbia’s attackers woke up in the fourth quarter; they scored seven goals. However, Serbia wasn’t close to catching up with Italy.
Filipo Ferrero, Edoardo Di Somma, and Matteo Iocchi Gratta each contributed three goals to Italy’s 13:11 victory. Goalkeeper Francesco De Michelis, who was in front of Italy’s goal for all 32 minutes, made 11 saves (10 in the first three quarters). Dusan Mandic scored three goals for Serbia.
In Group B, Hungary broke Greece’s resistance in the fourth quarter. The Greeks, who had less than five hours to rest between their win over France and this evening’s match, kept up with the Hungarians during the first three periods. The first quarter belonged to the Greeks (2:1). Hungary turned the score in the second period, building a 5:3 lead. The Hungarians maintained control throughout the third period, but their lead never exceeded two goals. Early in the fourth period, Skoumpakis leveled at 8:8. Following the equalizer, Hungary scored four straight goals in less than two minutes. Adam Nagy opened the series, Krisztian Manhercz added two, and Vince Vigvari made it 12:8 in the 28th minute to seal Hungary’s victory. Kastrinakis scored a consolation goal for Greece.
Manhercz and Vince Vigvari netted three goals each for Hungary. Argyropoulos and Chalyvopoulos scored two for the Greek side.
The third round will take place on Sunday evening.
