With two weeks left before the start of the 1st World Cup, Italyβs head coach Alessandro Campagna announced the roster for the first tournament of the competition, which replaces the World League.
The βSettebelloβ will play in Group A of Division 1 in Zagreb between March 8 and 14. Their rivals will be the host Croatia, Hungary, France, the USA, and Japan. The top three from each group (Group B will be staged in Podgorica) will qualify for the Super Final.
According to the regulations, the head coaches are allowed to submit an 18-player list for the tournament and pick 13 before each match.
Campagna called up 17 players. All 15 players who competed at the European Championships in Budapest are on the extended roster. Besides them, among the 17 players are Gonzalo Echenique (ProRecco) and Filippo Ferrero (Ortigia).
An experienced leftie Gonzalo Echenique rejoins the team after he missed the European Championships due to surgery. A 23-year-old Ferrero debuted for the senior national team in the 2022 World League but didnβt play at the European and World Championships.

Field players: Jacopo Alesiani, Edoardo Di Somma, Vincenzo Dolce, Vincenzo Renzuto Iodice (all Brescia), Francesco Condemi, Filippo Ferrero (both Ortigia), Luca Damonte (Ferencvaros), Giacomo Cannella, Francesco Di Fulvio, Gonzalo Echenique, Andrea Fondelli, Matteo Iocchi Gratta, Nicholas Presciutti (all Pro Recco), Lorenzo Bruni (Savona) and Luca Marziali (Spandau).
