The champion of Montenegro, Jadran Herceg Novi, officially opened the 2023/24 season with a friendly match against Jug Dubrovnik, played in front of the packed stands of the Skver pool.
The Montenegrins, the returnee to the Champions League as the wild-card holders, recorded a 12:8 (3:1, 4:3, 1:2, 4:2) victory.
The match was an opportunity to present a new team of Jadran.
As we reported, three experienced players joined the club. Defender Boljan Banicevic returned to Herceg Novi. Besides Banicevic, who played for Crvena Zvezda last season, Jadran signed two excellent Russians, both national team members. Dmitri Kholod arrived from Spandau 04, while left-handed Ivan Nagaev moved to Jadran from Vasas after winning the LEN Euro Cup with the Budapest-based team.
Djuro Radovic, who will play for Jadran Split the following season, and Russian Pavel Khalturin departed from the club.

The newcomers proved their qualities in the friendly against Jug. Kholod led Jadran’s attack with four goals. Nagaev added two. Vujovic also found the net twice. Vucurovic, Gardasevic, Gojkovic, and Ziuzin scored one goal each.
Two reinforcements were the best scorers on the team of Jug, too. Runo Buric, who came from Jadran Split, netted three goals, and American Hannes Daube (who arrived from Marseille) scored two. Filip Krzic, Marko Zuvela, and Ivan Vukojevic added one each.
I Next week, Jug will organize the tournament of Group D of the Champions League qualifications (September 8 – 10) in Dubrovnik and will welcome OSC Budapest, Tourcoing and Dinamo Bucharest. At the same time, Jadran will participate in the Memorial Tournament “Vlaho Bata Orlic” in Belgrade, together with host Novi Beograd, Partizan, Sabac, Mladost Zagreb and Spandau 04.
