Jadran wins 9th Montenegrin Cup in a row

Jadran Herceg Novi won the Montenegrin Cup for the 9th time in a row.

The final tournament was held in the capital of Montenegro Podgorica (22 – 23 November). After defeating Primorac in the semifinals (13:11), Jadran edged out Budva in the final game 9:8.

This was Jadran’s 15th trophy in the national cup. The club based in Herceg Novi won 4 trophies in the former Yugoslavia and 11 in Montenegro.

Jadran – Primorac 13:11 (2:4, 3:2, 4:2, 4:3)

Jadran Carine Herceg Novi: Dj. Radovic 3, Petkovic 3, Vucurovic 2, Obradovic 1, Averka 1, Mijuskovic 1, Spaic 1, Brkic 1.
Primorac: Draskovic 3, Milic 3, Gopcevic 2, Perkovic 2, Macic 1.

Budva – Cattaro 19:8 (5:1, 4:2, 8:2, 2:3)

Budva: S. Cetkovic 3, P. Cetkovic 3, Franeta 3, Kovacevic 2, Ivovic 2, Milradovic 2, Klikovac 1, Dragovic 1, Vukmirovic 1, Ivanovic 1.
Cattaro: MIlas 3, Mrsic 2, Vujovic 1, Doncic 1, Blecic 1.

Jadran defeated Primorac Kotor in the semifinals 13:11. Primorac had a stunning start. After less than 4 minutes, Primorac led 4:0. But, Jadran started climbing back and entered the last quarter with a 9:8 advantage. In the middle of the last period, Jadran built a safe 12:8 advantage. The final score was 13:11.

Budva demolished Cattaro in the second semifinal match 19:8.

Jadran HN – Budva 9:8 (1:1, 2:1, 2:3, 4:3)

Jadran Carine Herceg Novi: Dj. Radovic 3, Spaic 2, Popadic, Petkovic, Vucurovic.
Budva: Milradovic 4, Klikovac 1, Ivovic 1, Vukmirovic 1, Franeta 1.

The final game was an even contest. At halftime, Jadran led 3:2, but Budva opened the second quarter very well and turned around the slim deficit into a one-goal lead (4:3 and 5:4). However, Jadran equalised before the last break (5:5).

In the opening minutes of the fourth period, Jadran took a lead twice (6:5 and 7:6) , but Budva levelled the score on both occasions. Jadran’s best scorer Djuro Radovic scored two goals in a row to give his team a 2-goal lead (9:7) which proved crucial for the outcome. Budva cut the deficit (8:9) and had a great chance with 6 on 5 in the finish of the game, but Jadran’s captain Marko Petkovic blocked the shot from Budva’s player.

After today’s win, Jadran has 30 national trophies in its rich treasury (15 in the national championship and 15 in the national cup).
