New Zealand Water Polo has announced that former Kiwi and Australian international Joe Kayes has been appointed as their men’s national team head coach.
Kayes, 33, boasts an impressive career that includes over a decade of professional play in Europe, including playing for Szeged and OSC in Hungary, as well as Italian powerhouse Pro Recco.
Despite being born in New Zealand, and representing them up until 2015, Kayes made his name with Australia, where he represented Fremantle and Cronulla in the National League and was a pivotal member of the Australian men’s team, competing in the 2016 Rio Olympics. With 106 international caps and accolades including a World Cup Silver in 2018, World League Bronze in 2019, and multiple Intercontinental titles, Kayes brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
