There were no big surprises in the national league this weekend, but there were several exciting games.
Sabadell suffered its first loss in the Spanish League.It was defeated by Mediterrani in a penalty shootout.
Jug defeated Jadran Herceg Novi for the second time this week in the Regional League. Only one goal separated the rivals again.
Crvena Zvezda, Novi Beograd, Radnicki, and Partizan advanced to the Final Four of the Serbian Cup.
Hungary, Day 10
The duel between two clubs that represent Hungary in the LEN Euro Cup was the derby of the 10th round. Honved welcomed BVSC.
However, the match proved that Honved wasn’t in good shape. The hosts suffered the third loss in important games in a row (to Ferencvaros, Savona, and BVSC). The beginning of the match didn’t indicate that BVSC would record a convincing win. Honved led 3:1. Between the 7th and the 16th minute, BVSC scored six unanswered goals and headed into the second quarter leading 7:3. That run determined the rest of the encounter. BVSC recorded a 14:7 victory with five goals from Miklos Csapo.
Denes Varga scored five goals to lead Ferencvaros to a 17:7 win over Eger.

Italy, Day 7
The Sicilian clubs, Ortigia and Telimar that shared the points on Wednesday, collected important points in the 7th round of the French League.
Ortigia traveled to the north to face Trieste in the derby match. The Syracuse-based side earned a crucial advantage in the first two quarters. At halftime, Ortigia led 10:6 and maintained a four-goal difference by the end of the third period (14:10). Trieste slightly reduced the gap in the final quarter. Ortigia earned three points with a 16:13 win.
After a draw in the match against Ortigia, Telimar played another Sicilian derby against Catania in Palermo. Catania has won only three points so far but didn’t surrender easily. In the 24th minute, the score was 8:8. Eleven seconds before the final break, Johnny Hooper gave Telimar a 9:8 lead from a penalty shot. Early in the fourth period, Vitale converted a 6 on 5 and doubled Telimar’s advantage (10:8). Still, the favorite secured a win only a few minutes before the end when it built a 14:10 advantage. Catania scored the last two goals in the match.

Sabadell’s winning streak in the Spanish League ended in the 8th round.
Mediterrani beat Sabadell in a penalty shootout. At halftime, the teams were tied at 6:6. Sabadell played better for most of the second half. It had a three-goal lead once (10:7 in the 23rd minute). Mediterrani, the home team, leveled at 10:10 in the middle of the fourth quarter. Sabadell answered with two goals – 12:10. Still, the visitors couldn’t save the advantage. Just nine seconds before the buzzer, Corres equalized at 12:12. Mediterrani recorded a 20:19 victory after a long penalty shootout. Regional League, Group A, Day 8
The second stage of the Regional League (Group A) started with the matches in the two new groups (1st – 3rd and 4th – 7th place).
Jug and Jadran Herceg Novi faced off for the second time in a few days. On Wednesday, Jug beat Jadran in Herceg Novi 9:8. Jug earned another narrow win, this time in Dubrovnik – 13:12. Jug controlled the match. It had a 3-goal lead twice (7:4, 8:5). Jadran managed to catch up with the rival in the fourth quarter (10:10, 11:11, 12:12). Centre-forward Bogdan Djerkovic scored a winner 34 seconds before the end. Maro Jokovic was Jug’s power engine with four goals. Kholod, V. Radovic, Vujovic, and Nagaev scored two each for Jadran.

Serbian Cup, Quarterfinals
Novi Beograd, Crvena Zvezda, Radnicki and Partizan will play at the Final Four of the Serbian Cup.
The quarterfinal matches were played this weekend.
Crvena Zvezda, the 2022/23 Serbian Cup winner, easily beat Proleter 20:7.
Novi Beograd played an away match against Sabac. A week ago, these two teams met in the same pool in the league match. The game was very similar to the one in the championships – very exciting. Sabac opened the match excellently – with a 4:1 first quarter. Before the final quarter, it stood 6:6. Five minutes before the end, the score was 7:7. Then, Novi Beograd produced a 3:0 run (Cuk and Granados 2) to secure a win. Sabac netted a consolation goal at the finish – 10:8.
Radnicki took revenge for a defeat to Valis in the league. The Kragujevac-based team defeated Valis 14:11. The game was open until the final period, just like the match in Sabac. Midway through the fourth quarter, it stood 10:10.Radnicki earned a 12:10 lead shortly after. Valis couldn’t equalize.
Partizan beat Vojvodina by four goals (13:9).
The Final Four will be held early in December. The draw will be conducted next week.
