Jug took a flying start in the Croatian derby. The hosts, which are the current Croatian champions, earned an early 3:0 lead. But, Mladost, the reigning Regional League champion, managed to come back and to reduce the gap in the second quarter. At halftime, Jug led 6:5. Before the last quarter, Jug had a 2-goal advantage (10:8). Quickly after the last break, Mladost’s Milos Cuk hit the back of the net and the visitors cut the deficit (9:10) once again. However, Jug responded with four straight goals and went 14:9 up. Mladost scored just a consolation goal in the finish of the game.
The best scorers were Jug’s Loren Fatovic (4) and Paulo Obradovic (3). The hosts did a great job in defence, as they halted Mladost’s centre-forwards Josip Vrlic and Cosmin Radu. Jug’s goalkeeper Toni Popadic was outstanding with 10 saves.
Jadran Herceg Novi led throughout the Montenegrin derby. Early in the second period, Jadran already had a 4-goal advantage (7:3). But, Primorac didn’t surrender and it came very close in the middle of the third period. Primorac was trailing 8:9 and 9:10 in the third quarter. After that, Jadran, led by Djuro Radovic, scored five unanswered to jump to a 15:9 lead with 3:43 to go. There was no way back for the home team.
The Serbian derby offered a lot of thrills and the winner was decided by a last- gasp goal.
Crvena Zvezda dominated the first quarter and entered the second period with a 4:2 lead. Sabac opened the 2nd quarter with three goals and went ahead (5:4) in the 13th minute. Crvena Zvezda equalised (5:5), but the hosts earned a new lead, thanks to Markovic’s goal just two seconds from the end of the second quarter (6:5). Sabac, the Serbian champion, continued its series with two goals and extended the margin (8:5).
The hosts had a 9:6 advantage in the middle of the 3rd quarter, but Zvezda produced a 3:0 series and levelled the score in the 30th minute (9:9). Sabac’s Mirko Radulovic beat the buzzer, as he netted his 2nd goal a second before the end for the hosts’ 10:9 win.
This was Sabac’s second win in the season, after a convincing 15:6 victory over Primorac in the 1st round.
