Several exciting national derby games were played across Europe over the weekend.
In Hungary, Ferencvaros emerged victorious against Szolnok, scoring a last-second goal, while Vasas avenged a loss in the LEN Euro Cup by beating Honved.
Barceloneta continued its winning streak by defeating Sabadell in the Spanish League, and Barcelona secured a win over Mediterrani after a penalty shootout.
In the Croatian derby in the Regional league, Jug emerged victorious over Jadran Split after a penalty shootout. Savona beat Telimar in Italy, and Crvena Zvezda emerged victorious in Serbia over Radnicki.
Hungarian League, Round 11
The 11th round of the Hungarian League featured clashes between former European champions. Szolnok hosted Ferencvaros while Vasas and Honved faced each other in the Budapest derby.
Ferencvaros arrived in Szolnok as a heavy favorite. It earned the points, but Ferencvaros had to work hard to beat Szolnok. The hosts stunned the reigning champion in the first half and kept an advantage almost until the end. In the second quarter, Szolnok led 6:2 and 7:3. In the middle of the third period, Ferencvaros leveled at 7:7. Still, Szolnok was able to earn a 9:7 advantage before the final quarter. Ferencvaros opened the final period with three goals. Four minutes before the end, Dusan Mandic put the hosts in front for the first time – 10:9 (the fourth of his five goals in the match). In the remaining time, the teams exchanged the goals. Ferencvaros managed to take all points. Szilard Jansik scored a winner in the very last second – 12:11.
Vasas and Honved met in the Komjadi pool for the second time this week. On Thursday, Honved defeated Vasas in a penalty shootout in the LEN Euro Cup. Vasas took revenge for the defeat on the European stage. The hosts controlled the game and recorded a 13:9 win with four goals from Batizi Benedek.

Spanish League, Round 9
Barceloneta emerged victorious against Sabadell in an encounter between two Champions League clubs . The game witnessed both teams taking the lead in the first three quarters, but they were tied at 8:8 before the start of the final eight minutes. Early in the fourth quarter, Ivan Domagoj Zovic scored a goal for Barceloneta, putting them in the lead at 9:8. However, Francisco Valera leveled the score in the next possession. In the 28th minute, Bernat Sanahuja scored a goal for Barcelona, which helped them regain the lead at 10:9. Sabadell failed to respond, and Alberto Munarriz scored a power-play goal in the final second, setting the final score. Marc Larumbe of Barceloneta was the top scorer of the match with four goals.
The other derby of the round was even more exciting. Barcelona edged Mediterrani in a weird game. Mediterrani dominated in the first two quarters and a half and gained a 6:2 lead. But then, the game started changing the course. Barcelona produced a 5:0 run in nine minutes and took a 7:6 lead (30th minute). Still, Barcelona didn’t save all three points. Mediterrani leveled at 7:7 with 14 seconds to go and prolonged the match to a shootout. Barcelona won two points in a penalty drama.

Italian League, Round 7
Savona beat Telimar in Palermo in the derby of Round 8. The Sicilians scored an opening goal (1:0). Savona responded with three for a 3:1 lead. From that point on, the visiting team was always in front. Telimar couldn’t catch up with the hosts primarily because of an outstanding Bogdan Djurdjic, who scored seven goals to lead Savona to a 14:11 win.
All Sicilian clubs recorded wins. Ortigia easily beat Camogli, and Catania surprised Trieste. Catania had a slim 11:10 advantage. The Sicilians went to 12:10 and 13:11 in the fourth quarter. Trieste halved the deficit on both occasions but couldn’t equalize, even though there were still three minutes to play after Trieste’s 12th goal.
Recco beat Salerno by 13 goals.

Serbian League, Round 7
Novi Beograd and Crvena Zvezda won derby games.
Novi Beograd demolished Sabac 23:9. Twice this season, Sabac offered a strong resistance to Novi Beograd. Still, the reigning champion, cruised to the win this time, with five goals from Nikola Jaksic and Alvaro Granados. Ognjen Stojanovic scored four for Sabac.
Radnicki and Crvena Zvezda met in Kragujevac. The hosts gained a one-goal advantage four times in the first half, but the Belgrade-based side equalized on each occasion. Crvena Zvezda was a better rival in the second half for a 10:7 victory, with three goals from Drasko Gogov and Marko Radovic. Lazar Vickovic and Miroslav Randjic scored two each for Radnicki.

Regional League, Round 9
The Croatian derby between Jug and Jadran produced a lot of excitement. Jug, the visiting team in this match, had a 2-goal lead several times in the middle two periods (4:2, 5:3, 6:4, 7:5). Still, the teams were tied before the final period (7:7). Jadran extended its series to four goals in a row and gained a 9:7 advantage early in the fourth quarter. Jug managed to catch up with the hosts and leveled at 9:9, 10:10 and 11:11. The match entered to a shootout, which saw only three goals. Jug scored thrice for a 14:12 victory.
Rino Buric, who arrived in Jug from Jadran this summer, led the visitors with five goals. Luka Bukic, Djuro Radovic and Loren Fatovic scored three each for Jadran.
Mornar earned the first points with a surprising win over Mladost in Zagreb.
