In the Netherlands, the men played the last games of the regular season. The top 8 can now prepare for the playoffs. The playoffs for the women have already started. The favorites made no mistakes in the quarterfinals.
The last matches have caused considerable shifts in the rankings behind the top-2 (UZSC and ZV De Zaan). It was clear in advance which teams would end in the top-8. The fact that UZSC and ZV De Zaan would finish at the top also seemed a certainty. But the ranking below that has been quite mixed up after the last round. The biggest surprise was the dive from AZC. Polar Bears treated the team from Alphen aan den Rijn to a painful 14:11 defeat. As a result, AZC tumbled from third to seventh place, lost its home advantage in the playoffs and now crosses against the tricky ZV De Zaan, which itself had no trouble with Den Haag (17:8). Special was the last goal of Polar Bears goalie Eelco Wagenaar. Polar Bears also played against The Hague on Sunday. With their 12:5 victory, they even skipped AZC in the rankings. The team from Ede will meet Het Ravijn in the quarterfinals, which itself had a strong weekend with two victories.
Number four is ZPC Amersfoort. The team of the new coach Jeroen Cavalje won the difficult away game of BZC with 12:17. Special was the fact that father and son Reuten were each other’s opponents. Father Zeno (coach BZC) lost. Son Lars (player ZPC Amersfoort) excelled with five goals. ZPC Amersfoort will meet GZC Donk in the playoffs. The team from Gouda defeated ZPB with 9:12. In the second half, GZC Donk, led by Stan van den Heuvel, made up a 7:5 deficit.Â
For the other teams, the season is finished now. In this full weekend, particular SVH was busy. Due to corona they had to make up for some matches and came into action three times. All three games were lost by the way. This week the Dutch Federation (KNZB) decided in consultation with the clubs to adjust the final phase of the competition. There will be no relegation and only matches that are necessary to determine the cup winner and champion of the competition will be played.
