LEN confirms new dates and venue of 2024 European Championships

LEN has officially confirmed new dates and a venue for the next European Championships.

The tournament will take place at the Wingate Institute in Netanya (30 km from Tel Aviv) between January 3 and 16, 2024. The 2022 European U19 Women’s Championship was held in the pool of the Wingate Institute in Netanya.

Initially, the Championships were scheduled for October this year in Tel Aviv. We already have published that the Israel Water Polo Federation announced that the tournament had been moved to January next year.

LEN confirmed that information in a letter sent to national federations. The European Federation said that the reasons for rescheduling and moving the Championships to another location would reduce the costs of the participating teams (the accommodation costs in Tel Aviv in October are very high- Ed.) and ensure that the clubs’ season can be held as smoothly as possible.

LEN said that it had agreed with the Israel Water Polo Federation to change the location from Tel Aviv to Netanya to address the financial and technical challenges of hosting the event in Tel Aviv at the initially agreed dates, which would also reduce the costs for participating countries.

“This decision also ensures that the European Club Competition season can take place as smoothly as possible in an exceptionally busy 2023-2024 season for National Teams”, LEN said in the letter.

With this change, LEN avoided two pauses in the 2023/24 season of clubs’ competitions because the 21st World Aquatics Championships in Doha will be held next winter (February 2 – 24).

So, the clubs will have only one break in the next season, which will be longer than planned. But, the European national teams that will play at the 2024 European and World Championships will have only two weeks of pause between two big competitions. The final list of the participating teams in the 2024 World Championships will be known only after the Europeans in Netanya. The last six tickets for Doha (three for male and three for female teams) will be allocated at the 2024 Europeans. The best three non-qualified teams in the men’s and women’s tournaments will qualify from Netanya for Doha.

The list of the national teams that will play at the 2024 Europeans will be completed in June, after the end of the qualifications.

Anyway, next season will be very busy, like this and the previous one.
