Last week, the Champions League Qualifications started in Podgorica and Savona.
The season in the second-tier Europen water polo competition for clubs begins tomorrow.
Qualification Round 1 of the LEN Euro Cup will be held between September 30 and October 3. Eighteen teams from eleven countries, split into four groups, will take part in this phase.
The first round in groups in Sibenik (Croatia) and Utrecht (Netherlands) will be played tomorrow. There are five teams in each of these two groups. Tournaments in Syracuse and Novi Sad feature four clubs each, and they will start on Friday.
LEN Euro Cup, Qualification Round 1 (September 30 – October 3)
Group A (Sibenik, Croatia)
Shturm Ruza (Russia), Solaris Sibenik (Croatia), Carouge Geneve (Switzerland), Sant Andreu (Spain), Telimar Palermo (Italy)
Group B (Syracuse, Italy)
Peristeri (Greece), Team Strasbourg (France), Ludwigsburg 08 (Germany), Ortigia Syracuse (Italy)
Group C (Utrecht, Netherlands)
Sabac (Serbia), ASC Duisburg (Germany), Vasas Budapest (Hungary), Tourcoing (France), UZSC Utrecht (Netherlands).
Group D (Novi Sad, Serbia)
BVSC Zuglo (Hungary), Sabadell (Spain), Vojvodina Novi Sad (Serbia), AEK Athens (Greece).
The top two ranked teams from each group will qualify for the second round.
Each of the four tournaments promises fierce battles for the second round berths. At least three teams are contenders for available spots in each group, and not many teams enter the LEN Euro Cup as underdogs.
Ortigia, which played in the Champions League last season, stands out as a favorite in Group B. Vasas is eyeing 1st place in Group C. Still, it’s hard to predict the outcome, especially because more than a half of the participating clubs still haven’t played official matches in this season. The national competitions have started in Hungary, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany, but the clubs from the other countries will open the season with the LEN Euro Cup.
Day 1, schedule

Group C (Utrecht): UZSC – Sabac (19:00), Tourcoing – ASC DUisburg (20:30).
