Double World champion (2011 and 2019) Matteo Aicardi had surgery on his left shoulder today, his club Pro Recco announced.
Aicardi, one of the best players of the Italian national team, was operated in Milan. The shoulder surgery was successfully completed, the club said and added that the medical staff would evaluate the recovery period following the situation development.
Aicardi was injured during the national team’s preparation camp in Syracuse, early in July. After that, he returned home. But, ten days later, he was hospitalized because he tested positive for coronavirus. Meanwhile, he healed and recovered from COVID-19. Still, he didn’t join the team of Pro Recco (which started preparations for the new season on August 25) because of the injury.
Total Waterpolo wishes the Italian center-forward a quick recovery. It’s still uncertain when Aicardi will return to the pool. Because of that, Pro Recco returned to the transfer market early in August and signed Ben Hallock, the center-forward of the Team USA.
Another medical news from Pro Recco – Maurizio Felugo, the club president, beat coronavirus. He was tested negative twice and came out of the self-isolation.
