One of the contenders for a spot in the Hungarian League semifinals experienced an unexpected defeat in the 19th round. Miskolc, which had only eight points before the match, beat BVSC by two goals β 13:11.
BVSC, the 5th-placed team, arrived in Miskolc as a firm favorite despite missing a few key players, including Akos Konarik. However, the Budapest-based side never took the lead. It leveled the score thrice in the first quarter (1:1, 2:2, 3:3). Miskolc scored two back-to-back goals in the last two and a half minutes of the first period and was always in front in the next 24 minutes.
Late into the first half, the hosts stretched the margin to four (9:5). But the contest wasnβt over yet. The favorite from Budapest managed to cut the deficit to one goal in the middle of the third quarter (8:9). In the rest of the game, the teams traded goals. BVSC desperately tried to level but failed. The visitors netted their last goal with 32 seconds left on the clock to narrow the gap for the last time (11:12). Miskolc earned a man-up in its final possession. Gyorgy Agh converted it to a final score of 13:11. Balazs Simon scored three goals for Miskolc, as well as BVSCβs Zsombor Ekler. Goalkeeper Mark Grieszbacher significantly contributed to Miskolcβs win with 14 saves.
Vasas and OSC Budapest, currently in 3rd and 4th places, benefited from BVSCβs defeat. Both teams recorded victories and are now six points ahead of BVSC.
Vasas struggled against a young team of UVSE. Vasas led throughout the match. Still, it didnβt build a big advantage until the middle of the fourth quarter. Then, the team coached by Slobodan Nikic scored three goals within 84 seconds to jump from 10:8 to a safe 13:8 lead. Bence Batori scored three goals in Vasasβ 13:10 win. Besenyei netted three for UVSE.
OSC beat Szentes, but the hosts didnβt surrender easily. In the second quarter, the teams were tied at 6:6. By the end of the first half, OSC scored three goals in a row. Szentes was coming back occasionally, but OSC controlled the game and recorded a 15:10 victory with three goals from Lars ten Broek.
Szolnok dominated the first half of the match in Kaposvar, leading 7:2. It seemed that the visitors would achieve an easy win. Still, they found themselves in trouble in the third period when Kaposvar closed the gap to one goal (9:10). However, Szolnok retook control and won three points with a 12:10 victory.
Ferencvaros continued rolling. The European champion welcomed Szeged. The visiting team scored the first goal in the game. It happened in the 5th minute. Dusan Mandic leveled in the next possession. In the remaining time, Ferencvaros scored 22 and didnβt concede a single goal β 23:1. Gergo Fekete was the best scorer (four goals)
Honved got closer to BVSC in the standings, thanks to a 13:7 win in Eger.
