Montenegro defeated world champion Spain 14:13 in Round 2 of the three-nation tournament in North Rhine-Westphalia.
With this victory, the Montenegrins secured 1st place because they beat Germany yesterday. On Saturday, the tournament will be closed with the match Germany-Spain.
Montenegro led throughout the match against Spain, played in Dusseldorf. In the second quarter, the Montenegrins built a three-goal lead (9:6, 10:7). They had an 11:8 advantage in the third quarter. Early in the fourth, Spain leveled for the first time. Munarriz netted for 11:11. After that, the teams traded the goals. Montenegro took a one-goal lead three times. Spain equalized at 12:12 and 13:13. Two and a half minutes before the end, Bogdan Djurdjic found the net to make it 14:13, and Spain had no answer.
Germany and Spain will play the last match of the tournament in Uerdigen (Krefeld) tomorrow.
