The Men’s World League Super Final will begin in several days in Strasbourg (July 22 – 27).
The list of the participating teams has been finally completed today. Montenegro will replace Brazil, which has withdrawn from the tournament.
In the last week, rumors that Brazil had withdrawn from the competitions have appeared.
Today, Total Waterpolo’s sources confirmed the information. The South Americans canceled their participation in the Super Final. But, there was no confirmation which team will replace the Brazilians, who won 3rd place in the Intercontinental Cup, held in Peru.
Montenegro, which finished 4th at the World League European Qualification Tournament in Podgorica, was the first candidate to replace Brazil.
In the afternoon, the Montenegrin Water Polo Federation confirmed that their national team would play in Strasbourg.
Brazil, as the 3rd-placed team in the Intercontinental Cup, was supposed to play in Group A in Strasbourg, with Serbia (1st place in Europe), Spain (3rd place in Europe), and Australia (2nd place in the Intercontinental Cup).
Montenegro, which won gold in the previous edition of the World League, will replace Brazil in Group A and will play against Serbia on Day 1.
There is no draw for the World League Super Final. The composition of the groups is based on the rankings in the qualifications.

Group A: Australia (2nd place Intercontinental Cup), Serbia (1st Europe), and Spain (3rd Europe) and Montenegro (4th in Europe).
Group B: USA (1st place ICC), Italy (2nd Europe), Canada (4th ICC), and France (host).
Day 1 (July 22), schedule
Group A: Serbia – Montenegro (16:00), Australia – Spain (18:00).
Group B: Italy – Canada (14:00), France – USA (20:00).
After a three-day group stage, all teams will advance to the quarterfinals.
