Last week the Supercup was played in the Netherlands. For both the men and the women, that prize was a prey for the national champion. The competition really started this weekend. GZC Donk was immediately surprised. ZPC Amersfoort, eliminated in the quarterfinals last season, was the better team: 14-16.
No fewer than seven players left ZPC Amersfoort, but that does not mean that there is a decline in quality for the time being. Coach Jeroen Cavalé made his new team so ready that the national champion was defeated. Strongholder is absolutely Sebastiaan van Mil. The former international scored eight times. Two new Hungarians, Gergely Palotas and Milan Borcsok, also seem to be enjoying themselves in Amersfoort. They scored five times together.
The other matches had a clear winner. Het Ravijn recorded the biggest victory and is the new leader. The team from Nijverdal won 17-8 against SVH. UZSC defeated De Ham (15-8) and last season’s runner-up ZV de Zaan had no problem with Water Polo The Hague. On Sunday, the renewed AZC also recorded a victory. In Barendrecht the team of new coach Tim van Gulik was too strong for ZPB: 13-16.
Women
The women’s league has only eight teams this season. Six of them came into action on Saturday. Het Ravijn and GZC Donk shared the points. In the very last second, Dian Scholten (Het Ravijn) made the 9-9. The other matches were less tense. UZSC won big against De Ham: 8-22. Nerida Drewes scored very easily as so often. Against De Ham no less than eleven times! ZV de Zaan defeated ZVL-1886: 18-11.
