The Netherlands achieved a surprising victory over Croatia in the second round of the Rotterdam Cup.
The Dutch, who had great support from their fans, defeated Croatia 13:12 (4:4, 1:2, 5:2, 3:4)
At halftime, Croatia held a slim 6:5 lead. However, the hosts took control in the third quarter, entering the final period with a 10:8 advantage. They quickly extended their lead to 12:8 with two quick goals at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Croats narrowed their deficit, but couldn’t equalize. Van der Weijden and Sebastian Hessels were the home team’s best scorers with three goals each. Goalkeeper Buitenhuis posted 13 saves. Josip Vrlic scored three, and Konstantin Kharkov and Loren Fatovic netted two goals each for Croatia.
Hungary conceded too many goals, but it defeated Turkey, 22:15 (3:2, 7:5, 6:4, 6:4). Daniel Angyal and Akos Nagy scored four goals each.
In the third round, Hungary and Croatia will face off in the derby of the tournament, while the Netherlands will play against Turkey.
