Tel Aviv will be the host of the 2024 European Water Polo Championships, while the 2026 Europeans will be held in Belgrade.
“Besides discussing a series of important topics concerning European Aquatics, the LEN Bureau allocated the next two editions of the European Water Polo Championships. Tel Aviv (ISR) will host the 2024 edition, while two years later the event visits Belgrade (SRB) again. The LEN Bureau held a meeting in Cascais, the site of the LEN Extraordinary Congress on Saturday”, LEN announced in this evening’s press release.
Israel will host the European Water Polo Championships for the first time, but this country has hosted junior and youth Europeans in the last several years. Both teams of Israel qualified for the upcoming European Championships in Split (the male team will make its debut).
The local multisport arena in Tel Aviv shall be transformed into a giant water polo venue with a seating capacity of 10.000, LEN announced.
Belgrade has hosted two European Championships – in 2006 and 2016. Sixteen years ago, the tournament was held in outdoor pools. In 2016, the venue was the Belgrade Arena (today’s Stark Arena), a multi-purpose indoor arena. Even 18.473 fans were in the stands at the gold medal match of the 2016 Championships (Serbia – Montenegro), which is the highest-ever attendance in the history of aquatics.
The 2026 Championships will be held in the same venue.
