Novi Beograd won 1st place at the international tournament βVlaho Bata Orlicβ, which finished in Belgrade today.
The hosts beat Ferencvaros in the final (16:11). Szolnok was better than Partizan in the 3rd-place match (10:9), while Noisy-le-Sec finished in 5th position after a 15:10 victory over Novobeogradski Vukovi.
Dusko Pijetlovic (Novi Beograd) was voted the best player of the tournament, while Evgeniy Kostrov (Partizan) was the best goalkeeper.

Ferencvaros opened the match better. In the middle of the first period, the Hungarians led 3:1. The hosts leveled at 3:3 before the first break. Denes Varga gave Ferencvaros a new lead in the 9th minute β 4:3. But, after that, Novi Beograd kept the Hungarian champion goalless for more than eight minutes. In that interval, the Serbs scored seven unanswered goals, jumped to a 10:4 lead. That 7:0 series decided the outcome of the game.
3rd-place match

Szolnok and Partizan were in a neck-and-neck race until the fourth quarter. The Hungarians scored three straight goals in the first four minutes of the final period and earned a 10:7 lead. Partizan cut the deficit to one goal (9:10), and had a chance to equalize, but Szolnok kept a minimal advantage and finished in 3rd place.

Novobeogradski Vukovi kept up with the French for almost three quarters and made the most of each Noisyβs down in the game. In the 16th minute, the young Serbian team trailed just by a goal (6:7), but the French closed the first half with goal, and opened the second with two within 20 seconds to build a 10:6 lead. Vukovi didnβt give in, but an experienced team from Paris didnβt let a surprise.
