A few weeks ago, Vasas signed contracts with a new title sponsor (A-Hid Zrt.) and a new coach Lajos Vas.
Another big reinforcement arrived in the Budapest-based club which was the European champion two.times (1979/80 and 1983/84)
The Olympic champion Branislav Mitrovic, Serbia’s goalkeeper, moved to Vasas. He confirmed that he had signed a one-year contract with a new club.
Branislav Mitrovic started a career in Vojvodina Novi Sad. Then he moved to Partizan and won 3rd place in the 2010 Champions League with the most successful Serbian club. In the same year, he moved to Hungary. He played for Ferencvaros, Debrecen, Eger, and OSC.
Given that OSC Budapest won’t have foreigners in the team in the next season, Mitrovic left OSC after two years spent in the club. Vasas is supported by OSC’s former sponsor. New coach Vad also came from OSC.
Mitrovic has been playing for the national team of Serbia since 2012. He won the Olympic gold in 2016, four gold medals at the European Championships (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018), the title of World Champion in 2015…
Mitrovic (35 years) has dual Serbian-Hungarian citizenship so Vasas still have three available places for the foreign players (not more than three foreigners are allowed in a team in the Hungarian League). A 37-years-old Slobodan Nikic, a former member of the Serbian national team, who retired after the 2016 Olympics, was the only foreigner in Vasas in the last season. He has played for Vasas but has worked as a coach in Ferencvaros’s staff at the same time, according to the agreement between the clubs.
.
Before Mitrovic, three Hungarians came to Vasas: Bence Batori and Kristof Szatmari (both from Szolnok), and Viktor Vadovics (Miskolc).
Since Vasas (11th-placed team in the canceled Hungarian League) wants to battle for the top of the table, the list of the reinforcements probably still isn’t concluded.
