Reigning champion Barceloneta showed no mercy to Catalunya, which was one of the best European clubs in the mid-90s. Newcomers Nicolas Paul and Dusan Matkovic scored almost half of the goals for Barceloneta. Paul netted six, and Matkovic added four goals.
Sabadell, which has a Champions League wild card, as well as Barceloneta, found it easy to beat Rubi. Early in the fourth period, Sabadell, led by Konstantin Averka, built a 6:1 advantage and never looked back.
Caballa, the winner of the Second League in the previous season, didn’t surprise Mataro. After six minutes of play, Mataro led 4:0. Then, the visitors slowed for a while, but they blew Caballa away with a 6:0 third quarter.
