Ortigia played without two key players – Napolitano and Mirarchi, who tested positive for COVID a few days ago. Triste scored an opening goal, but the Sicilians dictated the pace in the first half. Ortigia built a 2-goal lead twice in the second quarter (3:1 and 4:2). The hosts went to 4:2 in the 12th minute. After that, the defenses did their job well; there were no goals for a while. Just 39 seconds before halftime, Trieste’s Japanese Yusuke Inaba found the net for 3:4 and that was the start of Trieste’s series. The visitors scored three quick goals in the opening minutes of the third quarter for a 6:4 advantage. However, Ortigia leveled at 6:6 before the last break, while Ferrero converted a man up in Ortigia’s first possession in the fourth period and put the hosts in front (7:6). The Sicilians gained a slim lead once more (8:7),but Trieste’s Petronio leveled at 8:8 (29th minute). Nobody couldn’t find the net in the remaining three and a half minutes.
Two games have been played in Sicily today. The visitors celebrated after the other game. Catania hosted Anzio Waterpolis and suffered a 6:8 loss. Anzio earned a 2-goal lead in the first quarter (3:1), while it entered the final quarter with a solid 6:3 advantage. However, Catania dominated the final period. The home team managed to equalize – 6:6 in the 31st minute. But, the hosts didn’t go further. Anzio scored the last two goals in the match for an 8:6 victory.
Savona, led by Andrea Fondelli, demolished Lazio. Savona had a 10:5 lead at halftime, and increased the margin to 12 by the end of the match.
The other team from the capital – Roma suffered a loss, too. Roma visited Salerno and kept up with the home side until the middle of the final quarter. In the 27th minute, it stood 8:8. However, Salerno scored the last three goals in the game and recorded an 11:8 win.
