Telimar and Ortigia, the clubs which played in the LEN Euro Cup last week, faced off in the Sicilian derby in Palermo. Ortigia has been very successful on the European stage and qualified for the eighth-finals, winning all eight games in the first two rounds. On the other side, Telimar had ups and downs in the first two stages of the Euro Cup and failed to reach the Round of 16. Both clubs continued in the same rhythm as in the LEN Euro Cup. Ortigia played very well. In the middle of the second period, the visitors led 5:0. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Ortigia built a 6-goal lead for the first time (8:2). The visitors had a nine-goal advantage on two occasions (15:6 and 16:7). At the end of the game, eight goals separated the rivals (8:16).

Trieste continues proving it is in good shape. It played well against Pro Recco, but couldn’t surprise the European champion. After a quick exchange of goals at the beginning (1:1), Pro Recco netted three goals in a row to earn a 4:1 lead. From that point on, Recco was in front, but Trieste didn’t surrender and chased the visitors until the end.At halftime, the European champion was two steps ahead (6:4). Recco opened the third period with two goals and went to 8:4. But, Trieste responded with a 3:0 rush and cut the deficit to one goal (7:8) before the final period. Still, Recco controlled the game. The visitors had a 10:7 advantage in the middle of the fourth. Trieste scored its  goal in the 30th minute, but Recco’s defense was up to the task, and the champion kept a 2-goal distance until the final buzzer (10:8)

Brescia left no chance to Salerno. The first and the fourth quarter made the difference. Salerno was an equal opponent in the middle two periods, but it couldn’t endanger Brescia’s advantage. The match was a duel between two goal-getters. Vincenzo Renzuto Iodice netted six goals for Brescia. Alberto Barroso Macarro, the player of the Spanish national team, who arrived at Salerno this year, found the net five times.

Savona returned from Genoa, where it faced Quinto, with three points in the pocket. The visitors started very well and that set the tone of the match. Savona earned a 4:0 lead, while Quinto scored its first goal only in the 15th minute. The home side halved the distance in the third period (2:4, 3:5, 4:6). But, the visitors regained a 4-goal advantage (8:4) before the last break and were a better rival in the final eight minutes. Savona beat Quinto by five goals (10:5) to keep pace with Ortigia, Recco and Brescia.
