A week ago, OSC and Szolnok shared the points in the last league round. Szolnok kept 2nd place in the table and earned the right to play at the home pool in the 1st and possible 3rd match in the semis. But, the outgoing champion didn’t take advantage of that.
OSC got off to a very good start and netted three unanswered goals in the first quarter. Szolnok’s players regrouped themselves during the first break and started climbing back. The hosts didn’t take a lead, but they leveled at 4:4, 5:5, 6:6, and 7:7. OSC produced a 3:0 series between the 21st and 23rd minute (Vince Vigvari 2 and Erik Csacsovskzky 1) to jump to 10:7. These three goals were the turning point. From that point on, the visitors were always ahead. Early in the fourth period, OSC stretched the margin to four (12:8) and controlled the game until the end.
Ferencvaros built a 3:0 lead with three goals in the last 184 seconds of the first quarter. But, the second period was a completely different story. Vasas netted three straight goals, and the score was 3:3 at halftime.
The teams ran neck and neck in the second half. More than a goal never separated the rivals. Vasas had a 6:5 advantage in the 23rd minute. However, Ferencvaros entered the final quarter with a 7:6 advantage. Ferencvaros took a 1-goal lead two times (8:7, 9:8) in the fourth quarter. But, Vasas leveled both times. Kristztian Bedo netted the last goal in the regular time. He hit the back of the net for 9:9 with 59 seconds to go, and the thriller entered the shootout.
The penalty shootout ended after eight rounds! Ferencvaros’ goalkeeper Soma Vogel was a hero, he saved three penalty shots. Daniil Merkulov closed the contest with a goal in the 8th round for the final score – 15:14.
