An encounter between the Euro Cup semifinalists, OSC and Szolnok, highlighted the 24th round of the Hungarian Championship.
After many twists and turns, the big rivals shared the points in a flood of goals – 15:15. Szolnok was in front for most of the time, but OSC was closer to a victory. The hosts led 15:14. However, three seconds from the end, Filip Filipovic found the net, and the match ended in a draw.
After the 24th round, the distance between the top two ranked sides remains the same. Szolnok is three points ahead of OSC, but Ferencvaros came close to both teams. The European champion is just two points behind OSC.

Szolnok opened the derby with a 3:1 lead, but the hosts caught up with the rival early in the second (3:3). In the middle of the quarter, OSC went in front for the first time – Dome Dala scored an action goal for 5:4. But, Szolnok responded with two goals for 5:6. From that point, an exchange of goals started. Szolnok was earning a 1-goal lead, but OSC leveled the score on each occasion until 8:8. Balazs Erdelyi converted a man-up and OSC took the lead for the second time (9:8), but not for long.
Six goals were scored in the last 03:06 minutes of the third quarter. But, OSC managed to find the net just once in these 186 seconds. Szolnok produced a 5:1 series. Firstly, Szolnok scored three goals in 96 seconds and earned a 2-goal advantage (11:9). Salamon halved the distance (10:11), but the visitors netted two goals in the last 42 seconds of this quarter to enter the final eight minutes with a 3-goal advantage (13:10)

In the 28th minute, Szolnok still had a 3-goal lead (14:11), and it seemed that the visitors would earn three points. But, the hosts came back into the game with four straight goals. Ferenc Salamon leveled the score in the 31st minute (14:14). Szolnok didn’t score in the next attack, but Balasz Erdelyi scored an action goal to put OSC in front with just eight seconds remaining on the clock (15:14). Szolnok coach Zivko Gocic called a time-out and prepared a quick action, which was successfully finished by Filip Filipovic, who set the final score – 15:15 three seconds before the end. Filipovic was the best scorer with five goals. On the other side, Ferenc Salamon netted four for the team coached by Daniel Varga.
On Saturday, Szolnok will play against Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade, while OSC will host Vouliagmeni in the 1st leg of the LEN Euro Cup semifinals.
Ferencvaros easily defeated PVSK Pecs, with five goals scored by Canadian Nicolas-Constantin Bicari.
Fourth-placed Vasas and BVSC, which holds 5th place, also recorded convincing wins.
KSI produced a big surprise. The bottom-placed team, playing with many juniors on the team (nine members of the first team were missing because of COVID), earned a point against UVSE. Moreover, KSI was in front for most of the time. The hosts had a 3-goal lead twice (7:4, 10:7). UVSE equalized two minutes before the end (10:10), but KSI’s Lorincz Gabor responded for 11:10. Still, UVSE’s Andras Szieben netted an equalizer 26 seconds before the final buzzer.
Honved narrowly defeated Szeged. Before the final quarter, it stood 6:6. In the middle of the fourth period, Szeged built a 9:7 lead. After that, Szeged managed only to reduce the gap.
Tatabanya had a 9:6 lead in the match against Kaposvar. But, Kaposvar kept the visitors goalless in the final eight minutes, while it netted four goals for a 10:9 win.
