Partizan defeats Regional League champion; Mladost wins Croatian derby

Partizan defeated two Champions League clubs in derbies of the Serbian League eight days. Last week, the β€œblack-whites” edged out Crvena Zvezda 11:10 in the 6th round. On Day 7, Partizan beat Serbian and Regional League champion Radnicki 13:11.

The big match of the day in Croatia was played in Sibenik. Solaris hosted Mladost, which recorded an 11:9 victory

2021/22 Serbian League, Round 7

Partizan – Radnicki 13:11 (4:3, 4:2, 3:2, 2:4)

Proleter – Novi Beograd 5:22 (1:6, 3:5, 0:4, 1:7)

Vojvodina – Nais 21:12 (3:2, 4:4, 6:2, 8:4)

Sabac – Zemun 15:10 (4:2, 4:4, 4:2, 3:2)

Valis – Crvena Zvezda 12:20 (5:5, 3:5, 3:5, 1:5)

Partizan opened the game against Radnicki with a 3:0 blast, but the Serbian and Regional League champion managed to come back and level at 3:3. Still, Partizan had a 4:3 advantage after the first period. The visitors equalized once more (4:4), but Partizan responded with three goals and jumped to a 7:4 lead. From that point on, Partizan was always in front, but Radnicki was in the match and didn’t let the hosts make a big difference.

Partizan entered the final quarter leading 11:7. Still, the contest wasn’t over yet. To remind, Radnicki came back from a 7:11 deficit in the Champions League match against Ferencvaros on Tuesday and earned a point with four goals in the last four minutes (11:11). However, the title-holder didn’t repeat that feat and left Belgrade empty-handed. Radnicki came very close to Partizan in the fourth period (10:11 and 11:12). They had a man-up to equalize at 12:12, but Partizan’s goalie Risticevic saved a shot from Ukropina. In the next possession, Partizan got a penalty shot, which captain Milan Aleksic converted to the final score – 13:11.

Radnicki managed to stop Partizan’s best scorer Filip Radojevic, who didn’t get on the scoresheet. The best scorer in the winning team was Stefan Mitrovic (4), center-forward Nemanja Vico added three, Milan Aleksic and Petar Velkic two each. MVP of the World U20 Championships Marko Radulovic netted three goals for Radnicki, while Milos Cuk and Nikola Lukic scored two.

After more than three years, Partizan defeated Radnicki for the first time and a 16:5 win in the league match in the season 2017/18 when it won the title. Partizan proved that it would be a contender for finals and even trophies in domestic competitions. The seven-time European champion will be stronger in the second half of the season. Two Olympians, Lovre Milos (Croatia) and Marko Vavic (USA), signed contracts with Partizan, and they will debut for Partizan in January after a winter transfer window. They joined Partizan after the start of the season, so they still don’t have the right to play in official matches.

The league-leader Novi Beograd did a clean job in Zrenjanin, beating Proleter 22:5 with four goals from Olympic champions Dusan Mandic and Nikola Jaksic.

Crvena Zvezda was convincing in the match against Valis 20:12. Gavril Subotic led the Belgrade-based side with six goals. Nikola Bogdanovic helped Vojvodina with six goals in beating Nais 21:12. Aleksandar Radanovic added five.

Sabac defeated Zemun 15:10 and caught up with Radnicki in points. Nikola Markovic was the top scorer with five goals.

1 Novi Beograd 7 – 21
2 Partizan 7 – 18
3 Radnicki 7 – 15
4 Sabac 7 – 15
5 Crvena Zvezda 7 – 12
6 Valis 7 – 10
7 Vojvodina 7 – 7
8 Proleter 7 – 4
9 Zemun 7 – 1
