Pro Recco wrapped up 2025 with a victory in a big Italian derby.
In the 13th round of Serie A1, Recco defeated its archrival Brescia 13:11 at home. The reigning champion maintained its perfect record at the halfway point of the regular season, and Brescia experienced its first loss.
The match featured several turns.
Brescia stunned Recco by taking an early 3:0 lead. Recco finally got on the scoreboard just 105 seconds before the first quarter ended, with Rino Buric converting a 6 on 5. By the end of the first period, Granados narrowed the gap to 2:3. The teams traded goals during the second quarter, with Brescia entering the third period leading 6:5. In the 22nd minute, Pro Recco took the lead for the first time when Cassia scored, putting the title-holder ahead 9:8. Granados increased Recco’s lead shortly after, making it 10:8. Balzarini halved Brescia’s deficit before the end of the third quarter (9:10)
Mario Del Basso scored the first two goals in the fourth quarter and put Brescia back in front, 11:10. However, the finish of the match belonged to Recco, which closed the game with a 3:0 series. Irving leveled at 11:11. Francesco Di Fulvio scored for 12:11 with 100 seconds left. Condemi sealed Recco’s victory a minute later.
Alvaro Granados was Recco’s power engine, scoring five goals. Francesco Di Fulvio and Francesco Condemi added two. Mario Del Basso and Alessandro Balzarini scored three goals each for Brescia.
The victory over Brescia is a special milestone for Pro Recco’s head coach, Sandro Sukno. It was the Italian giant’s 200th win since the summer of 2021 when Sukno took over the team.
Posillipo defeated Roma Vis Nova in a 32-goal match. Danilo Radovic and Niccolo Cuccovillo scoredfour goals each to help Posillipo achieve a 17:15 win.
Trieste beat Salerno 16:12 with four goals from Vuk Draskovic and Luca Marziali.
The next round will be played on January 31.
