Romania, Germany, Georgia, Turkey, France, Slovakia, the Netherlands, and Malta have qualified for the European U19 Menβs Championships that will take place in Podgorica in September.
The four qualification tournaments were held in Bucharest (Romania), Kosice (Slovakia), Tbilisi (Georgia), and Gzira (Malta) this and the previous week. Sixteen teams took part.
Three teams β Romania, France, and the Netherlands finished the qualifications in their groups with perfect records. Besides these three sides, Georgia and Turkey remained unbeaten.
The best eight teams from the qualifications joined the nations that finished in 1st-7th places at the previous European Championships, held in Minsk in 2018.
Pre-qualified: Greece, Montenegro, Spain, Croatia, Italy, Serbia, Hungary (the teams ranked 1st β 7th at the 2018 European Championships in Minsk).
Russia finished 8th in Minsk in 2018. But, Russia has been excluded from LEN competitions, so there is one vacant place. LEN hasnβt announced which team will fill the vacancy yet. But, if LEN applies the same formula as for the European Championships in Split, the Czech Republic will replace Russia as the best third-placed team. The Czech Republic has the best average of points among the third-placed teams (1,75 per game).
There will be no qualifications for the WOmen’s U19 Championships (Β Netanya, Israel, July 3 -9). There were 18 entries, and the LEN TWPC decided that all teams would participate in the Europeans.
