Pro Recco and Ortigia collected points in the 6th round of the Italian League and keep perfect records (6 – 0)
Both teams had challenging tasks today, but their matches weren’t similar. Ortigia edged out Savona (10:9). Pro Recco demolished Trieste, which was unbeaten until today (19:9).

In the first quarter of the game Savona – Ortigia, four goals were scored on each end of the pool. But, Ortigia dominated the second period and jumped to a 7:4 lead by the middle break. Still, Savona managed to equalize – 8:8 (27th minute). Ortigia earned a 9:8 lead in the 30th minute, but Savona replied immediately (9:9). The hosts had no response after Ortigia’s Rossi converted a man-up a minute and 22 seconds before the end, and the Sicilians won 10:9.
Pro Recco defeated Trieste easier than expected. Two weeks ago, Trieste upset title-holder Brescia. However, Recco was too strong today, and it needed one half to secure the victory. At halftime, Recco led and 11:3. The visitors increased the margin to 10 , with two early goals in the third period (13:3), and maintained the difference until the end. Hungarian leftie Gergo Zalanki continues proving that he is a suitable replacement for Dusan Mandic. Today, he scored seven goals for Recco.
Brescia beat Roma 14:8. The hosts didn’t surrender easily. At halftime, Brescia had a 2-goal lead (6:4). However, the title-holder controlled the match and recorded a 14:8 win.
Catania made a great comeback to take a point in a game against Posillipo. The visitors dictated the pace in the middle two quarters and entered the fourth period with an 11:7 lead. Many believed that they would record a win. However, Catania netted four straight goals in the first 3 and a half minutes of the final quarter and caught up with the visitors – 11:11. The rest of the game was a great battle between defenses. There were no goals in the last four and a half minutes.
Telimar Palermo visited Anzio. The hosts kept up with the LEN Euro Cup semifinalist throughout the match. IN the 24th minute, it was 8:8. But, Telimar’s American Max Irving closed the quarter with an action goal, and the visitors had a slim 9:8 lead. Occhione doubled the Sicilians’ advantage shortly after the last break. The same player added one more goal for 8:11. Anzio cut the deficit and trailed by a goal (10:11) with 01:27 remaining on the clock. Still, 20 seconds after, Vlahovic found the net for the fourth time for the final score, Telimar recorded a 12:10 victory.
Salerno defeated Iren Quinto in a close game. Quinto had a 6:4 advantage in the 25th minute, but Salerno scored the last three goals in the match for a 7:6 win.
Metanopoli defeated Lazio 13:11 and moved from the bottom of the table.
