Pro Recco and Ferencvaros faced off in another thrilling match to conclude their American tour.
In the final game of the series, Pro Recco narrowly defeated Ferencvaros 16:15 at Princeton University, scoring a last-gasp goal that avenged the Italians’ earlier defeat in a penalty shootout in New York.
The match at Princeton was a very close contest. After a 4:4 first quarter, Ferencvaros held its last lead early in the second period at 5:4. However, Pro Recco quickly turned the tide, taking a 6:5 lead, and from that point on, Ferencváros was forced to chase the Italians. Recco earned a 3-goal lead (12:9) in the third quarter. However, the Hungarians managed to equalize (12:12). Still, Recco entered the final period with a minimal advantage (13:12). In the fourth quarter, Ferencvaros leveled the score twice – 13:13 and 15:15. Andrea Fondelli put an end to an exciting contest, scoring a winner with 50 seconds left in the game. Ferencvaros failed to equalize in its last possession.
Three newcomers topped the scorers’ list at Pro Recco. Alvaro Granados scored four, Max Irving three, and Luke Pavillard also scored three goals. Krisztian Manhercz netted four goals, and Vince Varga scored three for Ferencvaros.
