Home teams recorded victories in todayβs matches of the 1st round in the VRL Premier League. Sabac narrowly defeated Primorac 10:9 in a nail-biting duel. Radnicki cruised to a 27:10 victory over Buducnost Podgorica.
The VRL First League started today with four matches.
Sabac needed less than three minutes to earn a 2:0 lead. However, Primorac kept the hosts goalless in the following nine minutes, while scoring three goals and went ahead 3:2. Midway through the second period, Ognjen Stojanovic ended Sabacβs scoring drought to level the score. Macic beat the buzzer, converting a man-up just two seconds before halftime, and gave Sabac a 4:3 advantage.

The hosts took a 5:3 and 6:4 lead in the third period; however, Primorac responded after each of these goals. Sabac had a nice chance to extend its advantage to two goals once again, 43 seconds before the final break, but Primoracβs goalkeeper, Risticevic, saved a penalty shot from Stojanovic, his former teammate at Partizan. Primorac then forced two exclusions during their next possession. In the final second of the quarter, Vuckovic converted a man-up opportunity, equalizing the score at 6:6. Vuckovic scored another power-play goal early in the fourth quarter, giving the Kotor-based team its second lead of the match at 7:6. Sabac quickly regained a slim advantage as Ognjen Stojanovic netted two goals within 51 seconds. The visitors leveled the score at 8:8 and then again at 9:9. However, they could not respond after Stojanovic converted an extra player, scoring his fourth goal and putting his team ahead 10:9 with 40 seconds remaining.
Stojanovic was the top scorer of the match, while his teammate Macic and the visiting players, Vuckovic and Inaba, each found the net twice.
The key to Sabacβs victory was an excellent conversion of extra player shots β 8/10 compared to Primoracβs 5/11.
A powerful team of Radnicki, with many water polo stars on its roster, showed no mercy to Buducnost. At the first break, the Kragujevac-based team, led by a new captain, legendary Andrija Prlainovic, led 6:1. In the dying seconds of the first half, the hosts reached a double-digit margin for the first time β 14:4. The hosts’ defense weakened in the third quarter, but they didn’t stop in the attack and entered the final period with a 23:10 advantage. Radnicki sealed a convincing win with four straight goals in the final quarter.
