The regular season of the Spanish Championships is nearing its conclusion.
This weekend, the last round, the 22nd round, was on the schedule. However, the regular season is not yet complete due to the postponement of the match between Catalunya and Barceloneta, which has been rescheduled for Thursday.
Nonetheless, the outcome of this game will not impact the standings of the top four teams. Barceloneta has secured the 1st place and will face Terrassa in the semifinals of the playoffs. Sabadell will compete against Barcelona in the other semifinal matchup. The playoffs are set to begin in late April.
Barceloneta mathematically secured 1st place earlier this week. Sabadell and Barceloneta faced off in a postponed derby of the 19th round. Barceloneta left no chance to Sabadell, recording a 17:10 victory to continue its winning streak in the domestic competitions.
After losing to Barceloneta, Sabadell played a demanding match against Terrassa in the 22nd round. It was a game with plenty of twists and turns. Neither of the teams had an advantage bigger than two goals. The teams were tied after each quarter. Before the final eight minutes, the score was 8:8. Terrassa earned a 2-goal lead (10:8) in the 28th minute. Sabadell responded with three quick goals. Bowen gave the hosts an 11:10 advantage with 01:56 minutes remaining. Blasco leveled at 11:11. Twenty seconds before the end, Alex Corres put Sabadell in front β at 12:11. But the drama wasnβt over yet. Terrassaβs goalkeeper, Jose Maria Motos, found the net in the very last second and leveled at 12:12. Sabadell won two points after a penalty shootout β 17:16. Alex Bowen and Axel Corres scored four goals each for Sabadell. Terrassaβs top scorer was Ignasi Baragallo, who also netted four goals.
The Netherlands national team player Kas Te Riele scored four goals to help Barcelona beat Real Canoe 14:6.
Sant Andreu edged out Caballa β 9:8. These three points helped Sant Andreu move to 9th place ahead of Caballa.
The teams placed 5thβ8th will play in the 5th-place playoffs, while the clubs finishing from 9th to 12th will compete in the relegation playoffs.
