The Hungarian Cup will be completed by September 20, while the national championship will start as planned, the Board of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation (MVLSZ) decided today.
The Cup was interrupted because of the positive COVID-19 tests in the team of Ferencvaros. A few days later, the corona cases were registered in three other clubs (UVSE, Eger, Debrecen).
After the meeting, Attila Vari, the MVLSZ President, announced that the games of the Hungarian Cup’s final tournament would be played between September 9 and 20. He also said that the Hungarian championship would start according to the originally determined schedule.
All this means that the 2020/21 Hungarian Championship will start on August 29. According to a previous request, only one match of the first round is postponed – the encounter between Ferencvaros and Vasas.
The same 16 clubs which have been competing in the Hungarian Cup will take part in the league. Unlike the previous season, all 16 clubs will play in the same group. After the 30th round of a double round-robin system, the playoffs will be held.
Most of the teams continued testing their players and staff members. The good news is that there have been no new corona cases since Sunday.
