Serbia bounced back from their suprise defeat to Germany with a positive 15-5 win over Romania, who subsequently lost their second game of the day to Hungary, 15-8. Germany, despite putting in another decent team performance, were brought back down to earth with a 18-11 defeat at the hands of Spain.

Hungary 15 – 8 Romania: Young Magyars give Varga food for thought
Zsolt Varga made eight changes to the side that edged past Spain on penalties, but a team that included six World Champions was more than up to the task of defeating a fatigued Romanian side at Komjadi, winning 15-8.
A free-flowing second period from the Hungarians (6-2) knocked the confidence out of the Romanians, who were left chasing the game. With the next four scores in the match, Hungary crossed the finish line long before the final period.
The result is a positive one for Hungary, showcasing their extraordinary depth with many young players gaining valuable experience in a test match in front of an adoring Komjadi crowd.
Adam Nagy led the Hungarians in all aspects of the match, and his four goals capped off a fine display. Vince Vigvari also netted four.
Aaron Belenyesi, who spent years in Budapest with UVSE, scored three for Romania; Andrei Neamtu’s left arm found two excellent goals in the game for the visitors, but goals were generally hard to come by for Bogdan Rath’s weary side, who had already faced defeat against Serbia earlier in the day.
It took some time, but the Romanians found a good rhythm in the first quarter. After conceding first, the visitors scored the next three goals in the game to settle their nerves. Vince Vigvari pulled one back with a brilliant near-side finish, but Romania had the initiative after the first quarter (3-2).
Hungary found it all too easy to unlock the Romanian defense in the second period, with two quick goals (Pohl and Adam Nagy) to take the initiative (4-3), before asserting their authority with three goals on the bounce – Nagy, Vigvari, and Vismeg – to lead 8-4.
The goal spree continued for the Magyars into the second half, reaching double digits with goals from the right via Adam Nagy and Gergely Burian (10-5). More goals went the way of the Hungarians, who at one point opened up a seven-score lead (12-5). Two late Romanian goals in the period were futile.
A party-piece score from Gergo Fekete inside the closing quarter added further damage to the scoreline. Vigvari and Szalai boosted their stats in the final exchanges of the game.
Spain 18 – 11 Germany: Ruthless Spain impress in strong attacking display
Spain exhibited scintillating attacking form in the last game of the day, triumphing over Germany with a score of 18-11.
The Spanish squad simply overwhelmed the Germans with their superior firepower. However, David Martin will be hoping for a more resilient defensive performance in the upcoming matches.
At the outset of the game, Germany struggled to counter the fierce and furious Spanish press, and they found it challenging to contain the formidable presence of Roger Tahull. Eventually, the Germans managed to make inroads against the Spaniards, although the final outcome was never in doubt.
The scoring prowess of Unai Biel (4 goals) and Marc Valls (3 goals) was evident, and Roger Tahull also contributed with three goals. The Spanish team displayed their characteristic clinical finishing, boasting a 59% shot accuracy.
While the victory was relatively comfortable for the Spanish, Germany demonstrated that their promising performance against Serbia the day before was no fluke. Milos Sekulic’s young side exhibited excellent promise, particularly in the final third, with braces from Fynn Schutze, Denis Strelezkij, and Yannek Chiru.
Spain enjoyed a blistering start, netting four goals in as many minutes from their forward giants (Tahull 2, De Toro 2). The game showed no signs of being a close encounter. Although the Germans gradually found their rhythm with strikes from Gansen, Chiru, and Sekulic, a classic Perrone counter-attack goal maintained a three-goal Spanish lead (6-3).
With Tahull completing his hat-trick, and Unai Biel, Marc Valls, and Berntat Sanahuja all finding the target, Spain cruised to victory. The second half, characterized by scrappy and open-ended play, saw well-crafted goals from both sides, though it had no impact on the final score. The only moment of tension occurred when the game was paused due to Denis Strelezkij suffering a serious eye injury; fortunately, he recovered and proceeded to score the best goal of the game from a 7m action shot.
Serbia 15 – 5 Romania: Serbs cruise past Romania in breakfast-time brawl
Serbia made sure they weren’t caught sleepy for their early game against Romania. Uros Stevanovic’s side bounced back from their surprise defeat to Germany with a routine 15-5 win over Romania.
The reigning Olympic champions ensured there was no repeat of Romania’s shock 17-14 win over Serbia at the World Cup in Long Beach over the summer. Clean sheets in the opening and closing quarters contributed to a winning margin of ten scores. Marko Radulovic, who was rested yesterday, netted five times.
Serbia steamed ahead with a 6-0 opening quarter, three from the 5m penalty line. It took the Romanians just over 12 minutes to open their account (8-1), but Drasovic’s second score and Radulovic’s third score took Serbia to double digits, sealing the result.
Credit to Romania for a mini-revival in the third quarter with three consecutive scores to salvage some pride, but the Serbs regained focus in the last quarter to cruise to a somewhat needed win.
