Barcelona and Terrassa continued their neck-and-neck race for 3rd in the regular season of the Spanish League.
Both teams are still tied with 12 wins in 17 matches. Barcelona kept the pace with Terrassa with a hard-fought win over Mediterrani (6:5). Terrassa bounced back after a surprising loss to Real in Madrid in the previous round.It defeated Catalunya.
The biggest surprise of the 17th round happened in the Canary Islands, where Rubi beat Tenerife.

Barcelona earned a valuable away win over Mediterrani (6:5) and kept realistic chances of reaching 3rd place. The defenses dominated from the beginning. In the 14th minute, Mediterrani’s Jan Perez scored for 3:1, and two goals separated the rivals for the first time. By the end of the first half, Goma halved the deficit to 2:3. The same player equalized after just 34 seconds in the third quarter (3:3). American Luca Cupido put Barceloneta ahead (4:3). In the 26th minute, Prat ended the hosts’ goalless phase that lasted for 12 minutes (4:4). Barcelona’s Marc Valls replied with two goals. Midway through the final quarter, Barcelona earned a 6:4 lead. Mediterrani cut the deficit to one goal, but it couldn’t equalize.
Terrassa beat Catalunya 12:8. Terrassa built a 3-goal advantage in the second quarter (5:2 and 6:3) and didn’t let Catalunya come close to the host in the second half. Terrassa will play against Enka in Istanbul on Wednesday in the return match of the LEN Challenger Cup semifinals.
Tenerife had a bad overture before the return match against Apollon Smyrnis in the Challenger Cup semis. The islanders suffered a home loss to Rubi, which had had only one win before visiting the Canary Islands. Rubi led 3:2 after the first eight minutes.
