Spandau 04 won the German Cup for the season 2019/20. The Final Four has been finished today in Berlin.
In the final match, Spandau defeated its arch-rival Waspo Hannover 12:8. The Berliners took “double” revenge. Hannover was better than Spandau in the final of the 2019/20 German League early in September, as well as in the 2018/19 German Cup final.
This trophy is the 31st national Cup for Spandau, but the first one since 2016. Waspo Hannover won three German Cups in a row in the past three seasons.

The first ten minutes of the final determined the rest of the game. Spandau built a 3:1 lead in the first quarter. Denis Strelezkij added a goal in the 10th minute for 4:1. After earning this solid advantage, the hosts controlled the game until the end.
Waspo managed to cut the deficit twice (3:4 and 5:6), but it couldn’t equalize. Spandau was always ahead.
Before the final quarter, the distance was three goals (10:7). Lucas Gielen, the Dutchman with the German passport, decided everything with two consecutive goals in the fourth period for 12:7. The five-goal gap was unattainable for Hannover.
OSC Potsdam finished in the 3rd place, after defeating ASC Duisburg.
German Women’s Cup
Before the men’s final, the female team of Spandau 04 successfully defended the national Cup, by beating Bayer 11:8 in the game for the trophy.
