The best Spanish club Barceloneta avoided the first loss in the national competitions this season. In the16th round of the Spanish League, Barceloneta and Mataro shared the points – 10:10. Barceloneta secured the draw with a last-gasp goal.
The other derby of the round also offered a lot of excitement. Terrassa defeated Sabadell 12:10.

Last week Barceloneta was superb at the Final Eight of the Spanish Cup and clinched the trophy with three convincing wins. Then it beat Jadran Herceg Novi in the Champions League (12:6). After four excellent games, Barceloneta ran out of gas. The titleholder barely earned a point against Mataro. A few key players of Barceloneta missed the match (Perrone, Aleksic, Bodegas, goalkeeper Lopez), but the hosts were favorites in the game against Mataro.
However, the visiting team shocked Barceloneta in the opening minutes. In the 9th minute, Mataro led 5:1. Barceloneta started climbing back and reduced the deficit before the middle break (4:6). The third quarter was balanced (3:3), and Mataro entered the final quarter with a 9:7 advantage. In the middle of the fourth quarter, the visitors went 10:7 up. Still, the reigning champion scored the last three goals in the match. Marc Larumbe netted an equalizer just two seconds before the final buzzer, and Barceloneta secured a point – 10:10.
Barceloneta’s Alberto Munarriz was the best scorer (5 goals), but Mataro’s goalkeeper Mario Lloret Gomez was voted the MVP of the match.
Terrassa came back from two goals down to defeat Sabadell 12:10. Sabadell, the home team, controlled the match for most of the time. The hosts had a 9:8 advantage before the fourth period, while they doubled a lead in the 27th minute (10:8). But, Terrassa scored four unanswered goals in the remaining time for a 12:10 victory.
Barcelona beat Sant Andreu convincingly – 13:7, but it needed a lot of time to break the opponent. The teams were tied at 6:6 (19th minute). Barcelona dominated in the last 13 minutes and produced a 7:1 run for a big win.
Last-placed Tenerife won its first point in the season. Tenerife hosted Navarra. After the third quarter, the visiting side had a 2-goal advantage (10:8). Tenerife held Navarra goalless in the last period, while it netted two goals and match ended in a 10:10 draw.
