Strasbourg is victor of week again

Like the week before when it defeated Marseille, Strasbourg has been the winner of the week in the French League. It played two games and earned six points. These two victories included one over Sete, which trailed Strasbourg by only three points eight days ago.

Strasbourg trounced Sete by eight goals (19:11) in the 14th round and it is very close to securing a spot among the top 4 teams in the regular season. Strasbourg has collected nine more points than Sete but has played two matches more..

Noisy-le-Sec defeated Pays d’Aix by seven goals – 16:9. Marseille beat Montpellier 14:8. The competition for first position between Marseille and Noisy will continue, with Montpellier and Pays d’Aix vying for sixth place and a playoff spot.

Seven days ago, Strasbourg did a great job by beating Marseille. After that big victory, Strasbourg collected six points in away games this week. First, it beat Nice in the rescheduled match of Day 16. The score was 10:4 (Strasbourg led 8:1 early in the third period and slowed after that).

Strasbourg’s rival in the 14th round was Sete. The hosts dictated the pace in the beginning. Sete led by two goals several times (2:0, 3:1, 4:2, 5:3) in the first half. Strasbourg leveled at 5:5. Sete went in front once more – 6:5. In the following minutes, Strasbourg speeded up. The visitors produced a 6:0 series between the 14th and the 21st minute and jumped to an 11:6 lead. Until the end of the game, the visitors increased the margin to eight. Marko Petkovic, who found the net six times was the man of the match.

After the loss to Strasbourg, Marseille returned on the winning track. The champion’s victim was Montpellier, which didn’t play badly. Montpellier did its best. Still, Marseille was almost always in front (the visitors leveled just twice – 1:1 and 2:2) and built a 6-goal advantage step-by-step. Thomas Vernoux scored four, and Andrija Prlainovic added three goals in Marseille’s 14:8 win.

Noisy-le-Sec defeated Pays d’Aix in the first half of the season only after a penalty shootout. This weekend, the Parisians recorded a convincing win. Pays d’Aix couldn’t repeat its good performance against Noisy in its pool. Only the first quarter in the match in Paris was balanced – 3:3. Noisy scored five unanswered goals in the second quarter and added one shortly after the middle break to build a 9:3 lead, There was no way back for Aix. Drasko Gogov was the best scorer in Noisy’s 16:9 win. He found the net four times.

After 12 losses, Nice won its first point in the season. The water polo players of Nice lost the match to Reims, but after a penalty shootout, so won one point. It was a game with a few turns. One team had a two-goal advantage only once. In the middle of the third period, Nice led 6:4. Reims responded with three straight goals for a 7:6 lead. But, Nice erased the deficit, leveling at 7:7 and 8:8 again. Each side scored eight goals in the regular time, so the match entered a shootout. Reims was better in a shootout (12:10).
