With the play-offs approaching, the top eight teams have crystallized in the Dutch league. But at the bottom it’s still very exciting. This season, no less than two teams are relegated directly. And the number 12 has to play promotion/relegation. After last weekend, SVH is the first victim. The team from Rotterdam lost to De Ham on Thursday and can no longer miss the last place. Of the other relegation candidates, PSV did the best business. The team from Eindhoven won against Polar Bears on Saturday.
On Thursday, the curtain fell for SVH. The team seemed to postpone relegation for a while, but Tom Geestman and Floris vant Veer of De Ham gave the Rotterdam team the death blow in the last period: 8-9.
Leader AZC also took action on Thursday. In Ede, Tim van Gulik’s team choked on Polar Bears: 12-8. A few days later, however, the number 2 ZV De Zaan did not manage to get any closer. ZV De Zaan slipped on ZVL-1886: 11-8. Because AZC then won against ZPC Amersfoort (12-16), the gap in the ranking remains eight points in favor of the Alphen team.
PSV was the happiest at the bottom of the ranking on Saturday. The Eindhoven team surprisingly won against Polar Bears (8-11) and saw the other relegation candidates losing their game(s). Waterpolo Den Haag lost to Het Ravijn (8-12) and BZC had no chance twice: on Saturday UZSC was too strong with 9-20 and on Sunday GZC Donk, who also beat De Ham on Saturday (13- 15), was supreme for BZC with a 24-9 score. Due to this results PSV has skipped BZC and The Hague and is now in ‘safe’ eleventh place. Now that there was nothing at stake for SVH anymore, the team suddenly won: 14-13 against ZPB.Â
