The highlight of the 5th round of the Italian Championship was a big derby, an encounter between Brescia and Pro Recco, played in Brescia. Pro Recco controlled the match from the beginning and -recorded an 11:9 victory.

Pro Recco took a flying start in Brescia and earned a 3:0 lead after the 1st period. The home players regrouped themselves during the first break and came close in the 14th minute (3:4). Then Recco started dominating again. The visitors, led by Aleksandar Ivovic and Dusan Mandic, produced a 4:0 rush and went 8:3 up early in the third quarter. After the third period, Recco led 9:5. Francesco di Fulvio opened the 4th quarter by converting a man-up for Recco’s new 5-goal lead (10:5). Brescia refused to lie down and die. The hosts scored three goals in a row and reduced the gap to 2 (8:10) three minutes before the end. But, Recco maintained a 2-goal distance in the remaining time for an 11:9 victory.
Ortigia continued its winning streak, as well as Pro Recco did. Ortigia visited Rome to face Roma Nuoto. The hosts were two steps ahead in the 19th minute (5:3), but Ortigia responded strongly, with five goals in a row. The Sicilians entered the last quarter with 8:5 advantage. In the end, Ortigia celebrated a 9:6 victory.
Even four matches were ended with no winner!
Besides the derby in Brescia, the very important match was played in Trieste, where the home team hosted Sport Management. The visitors were closer to a win, they led 9:8, but 62 seconds before the last buzzer, Drasko Gogov scored an equaliser – 9:9.
Lazio and Savona shared the points in Rome – 13:13. The match Salerno-Quinto also ended in a tie (9:9), as well as the encounter between Florentia and Telimar (14:14).
Posillipo defeated Canottieri in the Naples derby – 10:6.
