Tenerife Echeyde have announced that Itziar Pavón will guide the club in the forthcoming season in the club’s first campaign in the Spanish Division de Honor.
There were a few rumours about who would replace Francesco Rota, the outgoing coach, but the club have decided to recruit internally to fill the role, opting for the 33-year-old Pavón – who spent the last few years at the club as a player.
Itziar Pavón will have big shoes to fill at Echeyde, given that their former Italian coach guided them to back-to-back promotions to Spain’s top flight. But first and foremost, the primary aim for Pavón will be to consolidate the club’s status in the top flight of Spanish Women’s water polo.
Pavón spent most of her playing career in her home city, Madrid. From 2011-2016, she played for AR Concepcion (where she gained some minor coaching experience), before spending two seasons at Real Canoe.
She joined Echeyde before the start of last season, making 17 appearances last season, scoring on nineteen occasions.
