The international masters water polo tournament returns after a hugely successful first edition the summer of 2019, which gathered 21 teams from nine countries. Although both the 2020 and 2021 editions of the tournament were canceled, the second edition of the Barcelona Masters Cup will be held from June 10th to 12th, 2022, with the COVID-19 situation improving in many regions.
This year’s event will be held at the magnificent Municipal Swimming Pools of Montjuic, which served as one of the venues for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. The Masters Cup is organized by the Barcelona International Water Polo Academy (BIWPA) and welcomes men’s teams (30+, 40+, 50+ age groups) and women’s teams from all over the world.
To date, there are already 17 teams from 10 different countries confirmed: Argentina, Netherlands, US, France, Serbia, Scotland, Russia, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary. Teams are mainly wanted in the 40+ men’s and women’s categories.
Water polo and good vibes
“We want masters water polo players to experience a great weekend in Barcelona while enjoying a high-level competition with teams from around the world,” says Quim Colet, Sports Director at BIWPA.
Right next to the competition pool, there will be another pool available for the teams to take a break and relax between games. The tournament site is located at the majestic Montjuic hill, which offers breathtaking views of the Barcelona skyline.
Games will take place from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Participants will enjoy a top-of-the-line dinner together after the first day of competition.
The registration fee includes the participation, two nights of hotel with breakfast, the dinner on Friday night and a welcome pack with the official tournament T-shirt and some gifts by our sponsors.
