The Barcelona International Water Polo Academy (BIWPA) will organize the 3rd Barcelona Masters Water Polo Cup this weekend (June 9 – 11).
The 2023 Masters Cup improved previous records with 29 participating teams. The venue will be the historic Olympic pools of Montjuic in Barcelona, which hosted the water polo competitions during the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games
The tournament promises an extraordinary experience for master water polo players from around the globe. The teams are coming from 15 countries: Slovakia, Hungary, Venezuela, France, Malta, Turkey, Spain, Scotland, Wales, Chile, the Czech Republic, Canada, Italy, Croatia, and the Netherlands.
The men’s tournament will feature 19 teams, including Hungarian Bull’s Blood, Venezolanos, Canoe, and Barceloneta. Ten teams will participate in the women’s competition. Among them are Pro Recco and Calgary Polo Splash, among several others.
Approximately 350 participants will battle for medals and enjoy water polo throughout the three-day tournament in various age groups – three for men (30+, 40+, and 50+) and two for women (30+ and 40+).

As in the previous two editions, the Masters Cup in Barcelona will be more than water polo. Adjacent to the competition pool, a vibrant village awaits participants, offering additional amenities to enhance their experience. The village includes an extra swimming pool, delightful food and beverage services, and a relaxing rest area with panoramic views of Barcelona’s breathtaking scenery.
A highlight of the tournament is an exclusive dinner held on Friday night at the Esferic Club. This intimate gathering allows Masters Cup participants to forge new friendships and strengthen the bonds of the water polo community.
