With four rounds left in the regular season of the Italian League, three teams are tied for fourth place, the last position that leads to the playoffs.
After the 22nd round, Trieste, De Akker, and Roma Vis Nova share 4th to 6th place with 37 points. Seventh-placed Posillipo still has some hope, as it is three points behind these three teams.
De Akker was the only team to win points in the 22nd round, defeating Roma Vis Nova, one of its rivals for fourth place.
Roma Vis Nova welcomed De Akker in Monterotondo, the suburb of the Italian capital. The visitors were in front for most of the match – De Akker built a 2-goal lead in the 1st quarter (4:2). Roma cut the deficit to one during the second period and trailed 5:6 at halftime. The hosts opened the second half excellently, with a 3:0 run, and earned an 8:6 advantage. However, De Akker replied with four straight goals. The visitors scored three goals between the 22nd and 24th minute to regain a lead before the final period – 9:8. De Akker added the fourth goal to the series early in the fourth period. In the rest of the match, Roma halved the difference twice, but De Akker had a response on both occasions. Tyler Abramson and Francesco Lucci scored three goals each in De Akker’s 12:10 win, while Petar Smiljevic scored three for Roma Vis Nova.
Posillipo lost to Savona at home. Savona bounced back from a Champions League defeat to Barcelona with a 9:5 victory in Naples. The visitors controlled the match from the beginning. At halftime, Savona led 6:3 and stretched the margin to four in the following 16 minutes. Daniil Merkulov led Savona’s attack with four goals. Marko Radulovic scored three for Posillipo.
Trieste, the fourth contender for 4th place, lost to Pro Recco in the first match of the 22nd round, played 12 days ago (7:9).
Pro Recco continues sharing 1st and 2nd place with Brescia, which taught Onda Forte a lesson today. Brescia recorded a 20:9 victory with four goals from Max Irving. However, the man of the match was Montenegrin Nikola Moskov, who scored eight out of Onda Forte’s nine goals.
