After many ups and downs in the Champions League Qualifications last week, OSC Budapest convincingly defeated Honved 10:5. Honved kept up with the favorites for almost two quarters. Early in the second period, the score was 3:3. Shortly after, OSC scored two quick goals for 5:3. Two minutes before the middle break, Honved cut the deficit to 4:5. From that point, the hosts didn’t score for almost 14 minutes, while OSC produced a 4:0 series and earned a 9:4 advantage, which proved vital for their victory.
Eger water polo players visited Pecs and brought home three points. But they had to fight hard until the end, although they had a 5:2 lead in the 13th minute. PVSK came back and equalized (7:7) in the middle of the final quarter. Benedek Baksa scored his 4th goal in the 30th minute to give Eger an 8:7 lead. But, 63 seconds from the end, Marcel Kokocsi equalized. However, the visitors had the last laugh. Eger’s Bela Torok closed a drama by converting a man-up seven seconds before the final buzzer.
Ferencvaros played excellently in defense and cruised to a win over UVSE. The titleholder had a 5:1 advantage after the first quarter. In the 12th minute, UVSE reduced the gap (3:5). But, Ferencvaros held the host goalless in the remaining time. Denes Varga played his second match in the season and contributed to the win with one goal. Nikola Jaksic and Nikolas Constantin-Bicari were the best scorers. Each scored four goals.
BVSC defeated Miskolc in a very close contest. Before the fourth quarter, the teams were tied (6:6). BVSC took control in the final minutes and jumped to an 11:7 lead (two and a half minutes before the final buzzer), which was the end of the battle.
Kaposvar made another step towards the middle of the table. Kaposvar narrowly defeated Debrecen 14:13. The hosts built a 5-goal lead (10:5) in the third period and entered the fourth quarter with an 11:6 advantage. But, Debrecen started climbing back step-by-step and came very close (12:13) with 68 seconds to go. Twenty seconds before the end, Kaposvar’s David Mijic found the net for 14:12, and visitors scored just a consolation goal after that.
